A word to the wise from one of the big boys

“Start out with the conviction that absolute truth is hard to reach in matters relating to our fellow creatures, healthy or diseased, that slips in observation are inevitable even with the best trained faculties, that errors in judgement must occur in the practice of an art which consists largely in the balancing of probabilities; - start, I say, with this attitude in mind, and mistakes will be acknowledged and regretted; but instead of a slow process of self-deception, with ever increasing inability to recognize truth, you will draw from your errors the very lessons which may enable you to avoid their repetition.”
- Sir William Osler, from “Teacher and Student, Aequanimitas”.

Big Snow

Siskiyou County is breathing a sigh of relief. After weeks of no appreciable precipitation, we have been blanketed, smothered, inundated with, and clobbered by SNOW. So much that the ski park, which has been languishing, now is having problems with the power supply to their lifts. "Ski park shut down due to snow"...well, almost. The interstate has shut down a couple of days, people have their snowblowers going for hours just to get their car out of the driveway. EXCEPT for us who are fortunate enough to live in Lake Shastina. Two inches of snow. Total. Awesome. All of the beauty and none of the shoveling. I'm never moving again.

Another long run

Scott and I headed north to Yreka and did ten miles on the Humbug Trail, which goes forever. We saw just a little snow up at the higher elevations. I'm amazed that on a beautiful, sunny, albeit chilly Saturday, that we saw so few people out enjoying it.
Nothing feels better than a hot shower after getting tired and sweaty.

The Happiness Project : Monks Take a "Vow of Stability." Maybe You Should, Too.

Lovely day

Scott and I did a ten mile loop on the Clickapudi trail on Lake Shasta yesterday. It was warm enough to take off my jacket after a mile or so. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
